"Fort Pickens"

Fort Pickens was a structure built in Pensacola, Florida along the Gulf of Mexico. The fort was already occupied by Federal troops at the start of the war and while a few locals attempted to reclaim the fort following the secession of Florida, they were unable and it remained in Federal hands throughout the war. It’s possible Woods may have misremembered the name of Castle Pinckney, another small fort in Charleston harbor that had fallen into Confederate hands in December of 1860. This fort remained as Confederate territory until February 1865. Of the two, neither were taken in April of 1861; as a result, it is unclear what Woods is referring to here or who “Con. Sts.” is.
