"Universalism"

Universalism was a rising sect of Christianity during the nineteenth century that gained a particularly strong following in the middle of the century. The sect believed that spiritual punishment was not eternal and that all humans would eventually be allowed into Heaven. This belief directly contradicted the highly influential beliefs of the Calvinists, a group that believed individuals were predestined for either Heaven or Hell regardless of their actions on earth.
