Letter, J. J. Lankes to Eleanor Anderson, June 15, 1953 (Ms2015-020)

Transcription

June 15, 1953
Dear Eleanor: I got a copy of the "Letters" Saturday night at a bookshop in Chapel Hill. It is a lovely memorial of Sherwood. He lives again in it. You know I thought I hadn't seen much of him his loss was very personal to me.
I think the choice of letters to me used by Mumford Jones very good. That fellow Burchfield had an extremely small mind - a hell-fire Baptist mind that prompted me to think that whatever good qualities he got in his painting were accidental. I don't believe he knew himself what they were until pointed out to him. My best, J. J.
