The groundbreaking of the college’s first building took place with VT president William E. Lavery, Gov. John N. Dalton of Virginia, dean of the college Richard B. Talbot (pictured, left to right) on April 10, 1979. The college opened and classes began the following year, with the first class graduating in 1986.
